There are lots of students in Guilford County who are getting a great education.   Unfortunately, the students whose parents have money are more likely to be among that group.  If you have money, you have always been able to get a great education; you can go to private school, homeschool, or move into a great district.  Some students have exceptional skills and qualify for one of GCS's competitive magnet schools.  Other students are lucky and are accepted into great magnet or charter schools.  But what about the students who aren't wealthy, specifically talented, or lucky?  Who is looking out for them?

We need to ensure that every school in Guilford County is excellent.  We need to do a better job of standing up for the students who don't have options.  We need to work with all the stakeholders to find creative ways to use the most of our instructional time.  We need to find creative ways to attract and retain our best teachers, and move out our ineffective ones.  We can do all this with a new perspective, a creative approach, and an unwavering commitment to do what is best for ALL of our students.
